Dear HouseMax customers and concerned friends,
Since the moment our new commercial aired on television, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about what happened to my arm. First, I want to thank everyone for your concern and kind messages asking if I’m okay. I feel like it’s time to share with you all a bit of my story.
I lost my left hand during a fireworks accident while I was with some friends and family, back in July of this year. There was a problem with one of the fireworks that day which caused severe damage to my left arm and hand. The premature explosion also punctured both my eardrums, broke two of my fingers, and bruised the palm on my right hand.
Immediately following the incident, I was stunned, I started wiping my face with my right hand, at that point, I still didn’t know how bad it really was.
As I made my way back to my friends, one of my buddies turned to me and said, “Oh my God, your hand is gone!” Honestly, it still didn’t register with me what had happened. Someone called 911, and my friend started basic first aid while we waited for the life-flight to take me to University Hospital in Columbia, where I received phenomenal care from the doctors and nurses. It wasn’t until I woke up from surgery, that I finally understand the extent of the damage.
I’ve told this story a lot. I’m not one to embellish things, but I can tell you that my outlook on life changed that day. I have come through this incredibly difficult time with a new meaning in life and that’s to cherish every single moment.
You know those kinds of feelings—like when the wind blows or that feeling you get when the sun hits your body? That’s what I cherish the most now. It’s been a long road, and I’m so thankful to be alive. I feel like I have a second chance.
A lot of things could’ve happened so differently that day; my buddy might not have known what to do, I could’ve gone into cardiac arrest, considering I lost a lot of blood in the accident, and I lost consciousness several times. But the worst didn’t happen, and I’m very grateful.
So, I want to again thank everyone for your messages of concern and well wishes over the last few months. I truly appreciate your kind words and all the support I’ve received from everyone in the HouseMax family.
Life changes for everyone. We’re all human. And I honestly couldn’t be better than I am now.
Gratefully,
Jason Jones, founder, and CEO of HouseMax
